Don’t you just thank the techno-gods everyday for the internet!!! I do, especially when creative people are involved- case in point the Dutch design duo, Viktor & Rolf. I first discovered their cool interactive website a few months back when I posted about a retrospective gallery show of their fashions that took place in London this past year.
Well I can’t help but send you back there again today. This time to check out their Spring 2009 collection via a virtual runway show featuring a cloned Shalom Harlow ( whom by the way I saw in the bathroom of the Regency Hotel in NYC a few years back, oddly enough sitting upon a mirrored counter talking to someone about her name- apparently her parents were hippies) strutting the runway in all 21 looks.
That’s right- the designers have surpassed the glamour of the crowded tents of Paris’s fashion week and have chosen to bring their show directly to the fans via their website. I have to say, after pouring over hundreds of pictures of the Spring collections this month ( thanks yet again Style.com! ), seeing fashion in movement really does make a huge difference. Kudos V&R- I really am loving these two more and more , check them out as they smirk down at their army of clapping Shaloms during the show’s conclusion- brilliant!
The tone is set by their strong use of saturated shades of reds, oranges, blues and yellows are set off against geometric black and white, awesome accessories ( the mirrored bag and necklaces are to die for ), and one of the coolest uses of crystals ever (you get a lovely close up of the workmanship on the video )-according to style.com each crystal embellished dress took four weeks to construct.

Very cool! I loved the fashion show and Shalom is beautiful. (Their whole website is very dreamy and somewhat hypnotic.)
Anyway, about the collection, although I appreciate the geometric patterns, sculptural silhouettes and use of color, I must admit it was the black dresses that really caught my fancy. I especially loved the coat dress.
Thank you for sending me back.
