If the idea of wearing lace conjures up images of little old ladies, bad junior prom dresses and bridezillas ( as it has for me pretty much my whole adulthood ), then now is the perfect time to open up your mind and eyes and give this ultimate feminine and frilly fabric a second look.

From the runways of Prada, Dolce and Gabanna, Chanel, Balmain to Alexander McQueen- a modern take on this ancient fabric ( yes some speculate it’s been around since the Roman Empire ) will be one of the hottest looks and textures for Fall fashion.

If Mucci Prada says it’s cool- I’m buying it! Her Fall runway for Prada was a testament to how sexy and modern lace can be. Whether it was black and layered over a flash of subtle color ( pale blues and grays reigned supreme ) or dyed pewter, orange, golden yellow and tea cream- the race to put some lace in my closet has begun.

Some of her models even sported these shiny, lacy-like hair nets- reminiscent of ‘The Other Bolyen Girl’ meets ‘Blade Runner’- Love it!

The label’s lace handbags have a sculpture shape, as do this ’statement’ making necklace worn by a handful of the models - creating a ‘hard vs. soft tension to the overall style on the runway.
And though no other designer used as much lace in their collection as did Ms. Prada ( it pretty much was a brigade of lace dresses, skirts and tops )- many others were drawn to it’s antique beauty.

Karl Lagerfield for Chanel showed the playful side of lace with lacy trains, fingerless gloves and half lace- half opaque tights.
There is already a huge buzz about the Fall collection for Balmain. Their edgy rock-n-roll rebel meets high fashion is adored by starlets and editors alike- this little lace number is super sexy!

Dolce and Gabanna follow up last season’s hand painted ball gowns with a whole lotta lace. ( sub-trend alert: pull out your favorite silk scarves and tie them on a la French resistance- thanks to D&G it’s sure to be one of the coolest looks to copy ).
Lace and knit mixed together make for a surprising pairing at Alexander McQueen.

While lacy looks from Givenchy, Marchesa, Roberto Cavalli and Stella McCartney are right on trend.
Even boots and heels from Alexander McQueen, Roberto Cavalli and Sergio Rossi get a taste of lace- now these boots are most definitely made for walkin.

I agree, bad cheap, lace looks very bad and very cheap!!!!
I’m holding out for the thick, heavier lace like used at Prada… and by holding out I mean patiently waiting for a label in my price range to come out with their version ( i.e. H&M )!

Oh Prada, how do I love thee ! I’ve always been a fan of vintage looking lace. It can look really bad or really good. I’ll definately add some pieces to my fall look.
