The Spring 2008 collection from Swedish menswear and womenswear designer, Carin Wester caught my attention when she referred to a legend about the creation of color.
The Spring/Summer 2008 collection called ‘Purple of Mogador’, is inspired by an African legend about the black alchemist Amogador, who as legend goes, discovered how to create the color purple. (more…)

One of this year’s trends is the resurgence of animal prints and skins, in both fashion and home. These luxuries are not for everyone , however ; either for ethical or financial reasons. But, alas, we all have an opportunity to participate in this trend. “It takes a village to raise a trend. ”
Alligator and crocodile have always been considered luxuries (there are only a few differences b/w the two including their snout shape and what water they live in) . During a recent appearance before an audience in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Benedict XVI arrived donning a crimson cap trimmed with white fur.
The cap, known as a camauro, popular during the medieval and Renaissance periods, has not been worn during modern times except for a brief appearance during the 1960’s as part of the attire worn by John XXIII.
Perhaps the Pope’s revival of the camauro is a fashion statement, or maybe it’s just a way to stay warm when temperatures dip towards freezing.
This isn’t the first time Pope Benedict XVI has had us seeing red. His red Prada footwear that debuted last summer made a fashion statement and turned a few heads, as did his ermine-trimmed red cape.
Some may be critical, but with a professional wardrobe that leaves little room for interpretation, great accessories and a pop of color are a way for the Pope to show the world a bit of his personal style.
