Let’s hear it for the red, white and blue

Happy Memorial Day! The perfect time to try on yet another fantastic summer trend, the pairing of navy, white and red.

This time honored color combination is being rediscovered from the runways of Chanel to the fabulous racks at Targets. Pair the colors with either stars or stripes motifs and you can take the look nautical, boho and even if you dare super hero fabulous!

Best part -your navy, red and white acquisitions of Spring can easily be paired with solid black everything come Fall. ( oh, you are so already way ahead of the trend! )

Fall 2008 forecast: the red tights are coming, the red tights are coming

5th May. '08 · Category: Fashion & Beauty · Tags: , ,

We love color trends. We especially love when a color trend is spotted in many places at once… this would be the case of red tights.

Allegra Hicks pairs red tights with a purple, plum and pink dress

Seen on so many different runways during the Fall 2008 collections, it makes one wonder do designers simply call each other and say- “hey let’s all dress our models in red tights“…. or is there simply a synergy of inspiration within the fashion world that places these talents on the same color page. Yellow mellows on the table

2nd May. '08 · · Tags: , , ,

Yellow is a color that often finds favor with women for Spring dresses but this year yellow has been the ‘it’ color and the lemony lusciousness isn’t limited to dresses or even to women for that matter.

Men are wearing yellow! Yellow nail polish is finding its way to the mainstream. And yellow accessories are popping up more places than daffodils.

I’ve been living a busy and “colorful” life this month making me a tad bit late with the round up of my favorite magazines…. so before we jump into surrounding ourselves with the beauty of May’s flowers let’s take a look back and let April’s issues “shower” us with color inspiration!

Spring color craving: bright green

9th Apr. '08 · Category: Fashion & Beauty , Category: Home & Garden · Tags: , , ,

I’m feeling a real need to renew and rejuvenate my life this spring. So it’s no wonder the color I’m craving the most right now is any shade of bright, sprite, energetic green!

Greens that are not too sage-y, not to dark… but in shades that can best be described as existing somewhere between preppy and edgy and are as refreshing as a tall, cool glass of minted sweet- tea.

From runway to Pottery Barn?

I love talking about color trends each season for fashion and beauty, and the process becomes especially exciting when I spot the same trends appearing simultaneously in the world of home decor.

Hurray! Let the forest nymphs and artsy chicks rejoice… Spring is here!

Lucky for them they are already properly dressed for the celebration. Their style is right on track with my next favorite spring trend.

Prints, prints and more prints- from bold florals to graphic patterns to floaty, fluid garments that appear to have been dipped in or splash by a bath of wild color.

Over the past few seasons we have been seeing florals and stripes creeping back into favor at some of out favorite fashion houses, though for me last Spring was ultimately most about refreshing color combinations ( I still get a thrill at the rediscovery of pairing yellow and gray!) Are your nails feeling blue?

15th Feb. '08 · Category: Fashion & Beauty · Tags: , , , ,

Leave it to the make-up geniuses at Chanel to create yet another nail polish frenzy. Much like their “Noir” that was sold out everywhere in Fall 2006, they have followed up with “Blue Satin” a shade that is currently in such high demand it may take a bid on Ebay to score a bottle.

blue satin nail polish

I wrote about seeing blue polish on the trend horizon last spring… now it’s the hot color du jour. I asked Kate about this trend and she said, “As we ushered in the new year many hues of blue from sky to navy were already appearing in home and fashion stores everywhere and buyers are scooping up items in this universally appealing color. Blue is also a popular color this year among car buyers, global color authority Pantone named blue their color of 2008 and Yves Klein blue is making a come back internationally. Is it any wonder that the blue nail color trend you saw beginning last Spring has found such a following? ” (more…)   SensationalColor.com

Color and style: Grammys 2008

11th Feb. '08 · Category: Fashion & Beauty · Tags: ,

Authored by Julie Hoylen

The 2008 Grammys, which was celebrated last night in Los Angeles, was as usual quite a colorful event. After all, the Grammys are the one mega award show you expect to see artist wearing outfits that reflect their attitude and personality and not so much the latest runway trend.

While some stars came through, a.k.a Cher, Amy Winehouse, Cyndi Lauper, Prince to name a few- all whose “head scratching” ensembles could only have been chosen and worn by no other one but themselves- the majority of others took a surprisingly more conservative path. (more…)   SensationalColor.com
