Are you a reluctant DIYer like me? I too dream of being crafty like Martha, handy like Ty and time conscience enough like Rachel to complete a meal in 30 minutes ( heck, it takes me about just that long to figure out I don’t actually have anything in the house worth eating).
The dining room curtains that I plan to sew myself remain a pile of fabric, the watercolors tagged for my living room ( the ones I plan to matte and frame myself) are resting peacefully in my attic. With all good intentions aside, I have resigned myself a slave to the ready made. At least for the time being- or until I spot a DIY project that teaches me how to infuse myself with more time, energy and patience.
Yet just because I’m not currently wielding a glue gun doesn’t mean I don’t want to add a personal mark to my surroundings. So I was thrilled to discover a designer whose website was offering me a little hand in the finished product- without the workload that is.
Jonathan Adler is a pottery designer-turned home accessory guru-turned interior decorator who knows a thing or two about adding spectacular color to life. His interiors are bold and inspiring and his collection of home accessories are absolutely kitchy and fun. Even his design manifesto is colorful charming, after all how can I not like a guy who loves infantile symbols like hearts and butterflies since both appear on this blog?
His newly added ‘design your own pillows and rugs‘ feature on his website is sure to please us ‘inner design geniuses’.

Pick the border, the color and the letter- and a preview of your finished pillow comes to life. I love instant gratification!
The rugs are equally satisfying- I know two little munchkins whose bedrooms could do with a little added customized color.

A personalize tote based in our blog’s color palette is sure to leave me inspired even when I’m at the market shopping for that dreaded dinner hour!

And just in case your creative juices are still on summer vacation- a gallery of ideas appears on the site to get you started:

Ranging in prices from $98 ( basic pillow) to $3240 ( for the 9 x12 rugs), orders arrive in 12-14 weeks. And though my instant gratifications aren’t so instantly in my hands- they’re bound to be adding color to my life way faster than those homemade curtains ever will!

Julie, what a brilliant idea…I admire very much anyone who actually does DIY, xv.
Vicki Archer´s last blog ..Big Red…
Julie, I too love this idea and the LIFC pillows are just perfect for the dream office…who knows maybe some day it will be more than just a dream. Gotta run now and come up with my own custom color combinations.
Followed your link from the Inspired Room, you do have some fun things going on in your blog space. Thanks for sharing the inspiration.
Pearl Maple´s last blog ..Celebrating Seasons
Hi Julie, I followed a link from Color Me Happy, and found your blog. As another color junkie, and color professional I was happy to have found your blog. I love Jonathan’s Manifesto for decorating and agree wholeheartedly with his believe in adding some fun and whimsy into ones home, and there is no better way to do that then with adding color.
DIY – used to be de rigeur and now it seems that it is elevated to something “sacred!”
Let’s hear it for DIY, even if it is just a PB & J-
pve
I’m with you on that sentiment Patricia- my frenzied day to day life actually actually resembles one giant DIY project.
