French beauty company Guerlain and Italian fashion house Emilio Pucci have collaborated to create an unprecedented dual-branded makeup collection - Guerlain by Emilio Pucci.
With Paris-based Guerlain, a leader in the premium beauty world, and Florence-based Emilio Pucci, an icon of luxury fashion, both brands share a passion for beauty, femininity, sophistication, and, above all, glamor.
The two-year project is a fusion of both spirit and talent. The two brands reached a perfect equilibrium, where they brought out the best in each other.
The collaboration was first realized with the creation of an exclusive Pucci scarf for the project. Its unique print and vibrant colors adorn Guerlain products in a completely unconventional way, sprinkled with the Pucci touch.
Olivier Echaudemaison, Guerlain’s creative director, worked directly with Emilio Pucci’s image director Laudomia Pucci. Together, they beautifully translated the mood and evocative imagery of the scarf into a remarkable eight piece makeup collection.
“One of the favorite parts of my job is creating something that is immediately recognizable,” Echaudemaison said. “I was inspired by the Pucci scarf with its unique color palette. This, of course, excited me.”
Makeup is not neutral for Echaudemaison. “Neutral is boring, it has no life. Color is life. For me, to translate this into color is exciting and makes me giddy and happy,” he said, adding he wanted to see the nude trend replaced by very colorful ambiance.
It is clear this collection is not runway makeup. “You know, on stage, things are very theatrical and extreme. But life is not a fashion show. I am careful to separate those two worlds. The most important thing is making women more beautiful,” Echaudemaison said.
Thus, he created a fresher makeup with light colors that also enhances it as a summer accessory. The look was inspired by the Pucci scarf and Mediterranean colors turquoise, coral, and pink.
“I wanted a fresh and colored makeup but a very light one with pastel colors.”
The highlight is the Eye Set, featuring four eye shadow colors with two applicators, two eye pencils, and a Lengthening and Curving Mascara. The eye shadow colors are perfect shades of Pucci - lavender, aqua, rosy pink, and bright white - fresh, light, and perfect for a summertime lift.
“The colors seem very bold but don’t worry, they are in fact very light,” Echaudemaison said. “They are not meant to be heavy or flashy. They are very soft and are applied like a light cloud of pastel tones.”
The eyeliner pencils can be used in multiple ways. The dark violet pencil lines the inside and outside of the lid with ease and without smudges, while the white pencil can be used as a highlighter by applying it on the inside of the bottom lid.
The entire compact is housed within a charming zip pouch covered in the iconic Pucci-printed fabric. With its removable base, this collectible item can be effortlessly re-used as a mini purse or chic pouch with one’s handbag.
One of Guerlain’s most irresistible products - “Meteorites” - has been re-conceived in the Pucci spirit in the collection. The color palette of the tiny pearls reflects the fresh shades in the scarf prints: fuchsia, turquoise, apricot, gold, pink, and white. As always, these Meteorites Pearls highlight the face magnificently, adding brightness and a special glow to the skin. It’s accompanied by a Meteorites brush with pink bristles and a clear handle that is housed in a printed tube pouch.
Four new lip gloss are also in the collection. Two feature a unique mix of three colors, in shades of pink or orange; the other two, in gold or a transparent green, are touched with sparkle.
“These glosses can be worn with a lipstick, it is not too strong, or on bare lips for just a touch of freshness,” Echaudemaison said.
The Blush Mousse is meant to be dabbed on the cheeks for a radiant finish and gives a very girly touch. The chosen shade is a highly-translucent sparkling apricot, which compliments the other products in the range.
This collection represents the first foray for Emilio Pucci into the world of cosmetics and the very first time in Guerlain’s 178-year history that a partnership of this nature has been forged.
The limited-edition color cosmetics collection is available until August 16.
