Inspiration Americana

Celebrating Memorial Day Weekend in high style is one tradition that I love.  Like most, I suppose- the official start of Summer here in the United States just does something to my psyche. I happily eat the whole “Americana-ish” of the holiday up!

“Yes”, I admit I am that nerd who actually plans out a Red, White and Blue outfit and “Yes” I am also the neighbor who put little American flags in the planters around my house.  What can I say- I can’t help it, I love a theme!

The sight of Red, White and Blue bunting, a potluck backyard BBQ,  small town parades paying tribute to the men and women who have so bravely served our colorful country-the whole celebration really floats my patriotic boat.

Now don’t get me wrong, I admire and support  good style and good deeds throughout every corner of this great big, beautiful globe -but for these special Summer weekends (add in the mix- July 4th and Labor Day) I can’t but help but be a bit of a True Blue/ 100% red-blooded Americanophile.

This past week I thought lots about what that means to me and of the charities and products that today strike me as timely, classic and full of the Holiday Spirit.

I hope wherever you happen to be in the world reading this today- you and your families are together– enjoying good health, peace and an abundance of inspiration as well!

1) Nothing says Summer more than a kid with a Popsicle stained smile- FireCracker, Jr’s are the coolest American treat around.  2-3) LLBean has been synonymous with outdoorsy style since it first began in 1902 in Freeport, Maine- this year the company introduces its  Signature Collection- featuring revamped palettes and prints aimed a whole new generation of American Prepsters. 4) Wandering if a product you need has a “made in the USA” option? Yeah-there’s an App for that.  5-6-7) Luxe & Liberty offers up both modern and traditional American-made products for your home. 8.) Handmade and sustainable are both hot trends this Summer-I can see using this decorative bunting from for years to come.

9) Founded by American humanitarian Clara Barton back in 1881, The American Red Cross has been providing support for those most in need throughout the globe , support this incredibly important organization by buying one of their cool logo products (the army green H20 bottles and beach towels are my favorites!) 10) Every kid needs a new cute tee to celebrate warmer days- 100% of proceeds of the Awesome Tee by American Company Alice + Olivia is donated to The Children’s Defense Fund (the company will also participate this summer in Flood Of Fashion to help raise money for those effected by the recent terrible flooding throughout Nashville and its surrounding cities 11) Pie eating contests and summer State Fairs- love it! Show up in style with an American made Peterboro Lady Liberty Pie Basket

12) The oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico is on everyone’s minds and lips this weekend-Dawn is helping in the clean up of the animals so ill-affected by the disaster (be sure to register your bottle online so your $1 donation goes to the company’s efforts) 13) “Buddy Poppies” have been sold by American Veterans to raise money for American Veterans since 1924 , support our heroes with a donation and a big “Thank You” when you spot them at your local shopping center! 14) Wish I was getting a nickle for every time rock legend Bruce Springsteen’s 1984 classic “Born In The USA” is bound to be played throughout the summer holidays. 15) Leave the car at home and do something good for yourself and the Earth this season by biking it-this Retro inspired set of wheels from Aero-fast is my own personal dream ride come true 16) A perfectly kitchy and kid friendly cupcake recipe from American Style icon Martha Stewart 17) Baseball and Memorial Day weekend– a match made in heaven.  Today the MLB will come out swinging in tribute to the men and women serving in our military around the world by sporting and selling “Stars and Stripes” caps to raise money for Welcome Back

Who would have known what an important role a $2 bottle of grease cutting formula like Dawn, would be. Dawn, it’s not just for dishes anymore!

    Great colorful collage!
.-= Donna Frasca´s last blog ..At what age does color stop? =-.

  3. Those popsicles are a complete walk down memory lane for me. I am mad about the J Crew dress and the guy’s not too shabby either. I’m Canadian but get to partake in the Memorial Day events since I’m married to an American.

Thanks everyone for the comments- Yes Paula, I always embrace my Americana Spirit! Donna- Hope everyone catches that they have to register their bottle of Dawn online so the animals in need profit and Carol thanks for stopping by and guess what– the girl and cute guy are both dressed in LL Bean- not JCREW! (I guess the company’s signature makeover to hip up the brand worked!)
