The most amazing public art project begins this week in Paris. Running from October 3rd- November 2nd (weather permitting) Parisians will literally be getting an ‘eyeful’ of French photographer JR’s ‘Woman Are Heroes‘ as they walk, ride or drive around the Parisian district of Ile Saint-Louis and the Pont Louis-Phillipe.

Over the last handful of years the young photographer (who goes only by the name JR) has been taking portraits of victimized woman throughout some of the poorest and war torn regions of Africa, South America and Asia. He then blows these images up and illegally plaster them on the sides of buildings, trains and bridges in the very neighborhoods that the woman live in.

It is an homage to the strength and hope of these woman that drives these incredible projects. And now his work comes home to his own neighborhood of Paris.

Please check out his website and watch the videos of his many projects as they come to life- simply stunning!

JR’s work is amazing and so moving. I couldn’t stop looking at the images, many of which were so powerful that they brought tears to my eyes. He is a visionary artist that has the ability to connected us to these women at an emotional level. Brilliant!
I got chills seeing those pictures. All the women look so beautiful and it must seem strangley comfroting to have these looming beauties “looking out for you” on the streets of these countries. Thanks, as always, for bringing this to our attention…..now if you could come up with some tickets to Paris to see these for ourselves.
This looks stunning…xv

What a fascinating exposition. I’ve never seen anything like it on such a grand scale. The bridge shot is amazing. I’ve always been obsessed with eyes and find his work so illuminating.
