Exterior Colors: Orange You Daring

Would you ever dream of using the color Orange on the exterior of your house?  Sure a Terra Cotta planter is classic and an orange outdoor accessory uber modern…

…but would you dare pick up a paint brush dipped in a Pumpkin hue and go to town on your siding, your door, your shutters, your trim, your roof?

I’ve been dreaming of taking my front door from Traditional RED to a Deep, Energetic Orange…but that may just be about as far as I am willing to go– at least for the time being. (Leaning towards Benjamin Moore’s Adobe Orange-whatcha think?).

I will say though, that I very much admire anyone who fearlessly uses the color.  Feng Sui followers believe that Orange is the color of purpose.  I suppose anyone bold enough to pick this color to call home- has a grasp on the purpose of “going for it” colorwise!

I love it!  How about you?

I love pumpkin and squash colors on an old New England Colonial. There is a house in my CT town painted pumpkin with red trim. Wonderful. It was Frank Sinatra's favorite color as well!

Barbara, what color orange is that? It's fabulous!!

I love orange, burnt orange were the color of my bridesmaids dressed and everyone hated me ;).
I am painting my 1830's new england farmhouse and want to use orange as an accent, what is a good body color?

Thanks everyone for stopping by!
Donna- I now will have Salmon on the brain as I'm searching for trends to write about.
Carole- Yes, in the Southwest you wouldn't bat an eye at an orange house-but everywhere else it seems so BOLD-the colors of the surrounding terrain really makes an impact when it comes to color, right?
Michele- as a lover of orange I think I would be in heaven in Holland!
Barbara- I love your client's orange house, you all rocked the color.
Cheryl- "totally timeless" is the perfect description.
Sonu- I know-- you know your colors--- so I'm totally going to sample Benjamin Moore's Audubon Russet for my door makeover, I'll be sure to let you know my final pick.

Love Orange- still my fave hue after all these years! I've used Aura Exterior in a Matte finishe Audubon Russett HC-51 from Benjamin Moore on Front Doors and it's so fabulous. The Aura Matte is surprisingly durable and takes the "edge" off the orangey-orangeness of the color.@Michele
, I'm dying to go out to Amsterdam for Queen's Day to soak it all in!

Theloop is starting a new feature…I will be feeding your feeds!...that is if it is ok with you…in a new section called COMMUNITY BLOGGERS: http://theloopny.com/index.php/Links/Loop-Links.ht...

I love the color orange! I think orange as an exterior accent is timeless! Thanks for sharing.

Good point - and my answer is "yes," depending on the orange of course. There are a few around here but I don't have pictures of them (yet!)

Here's a client's house in the Boston area: http://www.integralcolor.com/wp-content/gallery/re...

I love Orange too - so bold and cheerful - I was in Holland (the House of Orange) during the recent World Cup and the Dutch really know how to "show their purpose" - which in this case was wining.
The facades of houses, bars & cafés (inside and out), streets, parks and people all decked out in orange - very very uplifting, affirming and positive - if at times a bit overwhelming. This color will put anyone in a good mood!

I think I would like orange on the exterior and interior in the right context and air. I think the clear dry air of the west is very conducive to orange rather than the wet moist air of the east. I noticed long ago how exterior house colors changed as you drove across the US. The orange adobe of New Mexico is an all time fav!

Orange is the color you either love it or hate it - usually no in-betweens. I'm not a big fan of orange and wouldn't consider it for any part of my home but I love coral for a girls room (and nail polish of course) and used a burnt orange in a clients master suite and it came out gorgeous! I see salmon coming in as a new twist to "orange". Don't cha think?
