It is that time of year, October, when my thoughts are filled with dreams of orange…pumpkins to be exact. Around Halloween I start craving pumpkin pie, watching “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown “ , and new fall wardrobe pieces.
This year I am in luck, as various shades of orange are in abundance. My father’s obsession with this color , this season, is well placed – prisoners are suddenly fashion victims, worn here in jest by Lil Kim (a nod to her time behind bars).
The most recent runway shows featured orange hues in pumpkin and tangerine. Alexander McQueen’s resort suit and Brian Reyes spring dress are a delightful wardrobe upgrade.

Techno saavy sisters can show their colors in all sorts of fashionable portable electronics. Toshiba’s orange laptop and Casio’s camera will be easy to spot in your office or on vacation. And of course IPod has an offering of many colors, including our favorite orange. The Toyota Matrix, in passionate pumpkin, is a smart choice for taking your style on the road. And it would certainly stand out in the mall parking lot.
If all this bold orange is still a little much for you , then certainly opt for just a pinch of orange. These fashion forward accents can incorporate the newest colors, while still matching all your basics. Lilly Pulitzer’s bright sweater looks serene paired with the blue striped shirt. Coach’s Op Art bag has a hint of orange popping from a rich background of grey. Robert Rodriquez’s skinny belt also pairs well with heather grey.
I hope you take part in the bounty of autumn colors, especially pumpkin and bright orange. Frank Sinatra is quoted as saying “Orange is the happiest color”. In heraldry, orange is symbolic of strength and endurance, although orange is usually associated with passion. So, send someone you share a passion with, or want to, a dozen orange roses.
