Okay, I’m a week behind watching Top Design ( thanks be to DVR ) so I just caught the window display collaboration episode with the former Project Runway contestants. Oh how I love when Bravo mixes and matches their reality stars- genius!
What caught my eye this week was the display created by Andrea and Preston for PR’s Daniel. Though the design did not take home the prize ( it came in second ), their choice of colors to surround Daniels awesomely bright yellow gown received kudos from the judges and had me jumping for joy in my pajamas.
It reminded me just how much I love the combination of a muted purple, gray, black and yellow. It immediately brought to mind an apartment that was featured in the May issue of Domino magazine- interestingly enough designed by actress Julianne Moore for her wardrobe stylist- that at the time had really caught my eye.
before and after- muted grays and mauve spiced up with lemon yellow bring the pad to life
Like the window on Top Design, her use of bright yellow accents upon a backdrop of grays and purples with accents of black was a real success and gave a nice cohesive feel to a small space..
I love finding color schemes that work for both home and fashion. So if your looking for a new way to liven up your neutral grays in your fall/winter wardrobes- think about throwing in a pop of both yellow and purple in the mix. And if your looking for a sophisticated palette to update a plain jane room in your home- this may just be the color combo to do the trick.
Wall colors:
Window Display- Flat Stone #6005 Sherwin Williams
Living Room- Pigeon Gray # 2133-50 Benjamin Moore
Bed Room- Iced Mauve # 2115-50 Benjamin Moore
Yellow fabric ( on curtains and stool ) Silk Trading Company, Lemon Yellow about $25 a yard

I love the window display from Project Runway ! And Julianne Moore has great taste…but I think the bright curtain color may be a bit bright to wake up to every day. Seems like it would be a shock to see that bold color 1st thing…or would it put you in a sunny mood each morning ? The fabric is priced well enough to try.
