I could sit for hours inside the US Botanical Garden and just inhale the beauty and magnificence nature affords us. Last weekend I headed over but before I even made my way inside the landscaping at the entrance stopped me in my tracks. It was so simple yet captivating.
The entire garden was brimming with flowers and foliage in green and purple. The greens ranged from a dark, muted green gray to a vibrant yellow green. The purples were in the range from

When you love a television show, the sets of the show are sometimes just as important as the characters.
This is the case for Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment from the HBO series “Sex and The City”. Everyone who watched the show came to know Carrie’s apartment as the perfect “pied a terre” for a single stylish woman living in the Big Apple.

It had a fantasy walk through closet that housed her equally fantastic wardrobe, a bathroom that most Manhattanites I know would kill for and the perfect sized kitchen for one. (more…)

Much like their mall neighbors Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel, Restoration Hardware has joined the ranks of catalog giants in offering their own line of children’s furnishings, bedding and apparel.
Their much anticipated Restoration Hardware Baby & Child catalog is open for business, and from the looks of things RS fans will be ecstatic.

Integrating the colors and decor of children’s room into the overall scheme of the home has been a huge trend over the last few years. Restoration Hardware obviously understands this and keeps their designs and colors very much in the vain of it’s adult catalog. (more…)

The annual Chelsea Flower show is underway this week in London. The famed show, considered by most to be the creme de la creme of floral exhibition, gives awesome insight into the biggest trends for gardening and arranging.

They say a leopard can’t change it’s spots, but apparently that theory doesn’t hold true to zebras.
As you can imagine I was jumping for joy when I opened up the latest issue of House Beautiful magazine and discovered that two of my favorite trends for home this summer- bright, bright hues and zebra print motifs have merged together into one brilliant trend!
Check out these cute products, beautifully put together by The Peak of Chic blog site, that they give as example…

Mastering the art of the “mix” is an important lesson this season. With so many luscious prints popping up on everything from pillows to slingbacks- the task of creating the right combo can be daunting- so when I saw this I took note:
Today the Washington Post ran an interview with famed interior designer Mario Buatta, a.k.a ” the Prince of Chintz”. The interview, which took place last month while he was in town giving a lecture to benefit the Georgetown House Tour, touched base with the designer on his famous Americanized “English Country” style and his ability to mix colors and patterns to create rooms that have a sense of balance, warmth and what he likes to call an “undecorated” look.

I’ve been living a busy and “colorful” life this month making me a tad bit late with the round up of my favorite magazines…. so before we jump into surrounding ourselves with the beauty of May’s flowers let’s take a look back and let April’s issues “shower” us with color inspiration!

Harper’s Bazaar looks at “Couture In Bloom”, “dainty and delightful, the finest in fashion pops up like a candy-colored kaleidoscope this spring”…this pairing of a fuchsia Versace Atelier gown set against this bright yellow backdrop blows me away! (more…)

Our celebration of Earth Day has had everyone talking green. The color has become symbolic of the environmental movement and can clearly communicate an organizations concern for sustaining the planet. Even the NBC peacock shed its rainbow colors in favor of green this week.
As we all become more eco-conscious our view of what it means to be earth-friendly broadens. It is no longer simply about ‘recycle-reuse-renew’ but is expanding to a broader understanding of the interconnectedness of our planet.
A shift in our collective view is what can bring about a change in our desire for certain colors and this is where trends begin. While we still have a desire for green and find comfort in brown our more global perspective is being expressed with the color blue. (more…)

The Grand Dame of using bright, bold color and texture combinations in her day, Dorothy Draper has been credited with being the first to ‘design’ a room using an artisitc vision rather than simply recreating historical “period room” styles.
She used vibrant, “splashy” colors in never-before-seen combinations and one of her favorite combinations was “dull” white and “shiny” black. (more…)

Birds are chirping and flowers are blooming…finally, spring is in the air. This time of year, like many, I entertain thoughts of a great garden. Especially after seeing Color Maven Julie’s pictures of beautiful Charleston gardens.
But alas, I live in a concrete jungle. So to pacify my garden cravings , I hit the streets of my neighborhood , camera in hand. I am in search of Manhattan greenery.
Although yards are an impossibility here (without a Trump sized budget and apartment ), tree lined blocks are possible. These flowering trees are a welcome sight to any nature loving tree hugger. The blossoms of these branches seem to be dancing in the wind- very romantic looking.
Other trees are surrounded by an army of daffodils. These little patches of yellow are just enough to bring a smile to
