When I think of the color lavender I think of the palest tints of purple however lavender flowers have many variations of purple some very pale, others that are quite deep and a whole range in between that all come together beautifully.
Just like lovely lavender my mom has many wonderful qualities that come together too making her such a great mother and grandmother but when you’ve celebrated as many Mother’s Days together as my mom and I coming up with a new and thoughtful gift idea can be a challenge. Especially for a mom who (probably like many of your mothers) really doesn’t need anything.
Deborah and Edith, Lavender Farmers at Seven Oaks Lavender Farm
Luckily for me an email from Julie’s friend Deb arrived in my in box and gave me a perfect gift idea– a day at Seven Oaks Lavender Farm.
My mom is coming to visit for my son’s high school graduation next month right during peak season for lavender so one day during her visit we will be going on an outing to the farm. We’ll walk through the fields, take a class in making lavender wands and then we will go to the nearby Inn Spa at Poplar Springs for a tasty and gourmet lunch.
Lavender has comforting and calming properties and I can’t think of anything my mom deserves more than the gift of comfort and calm…and I know I’ll enjoy that, too! I can almost smell the lavender in the air just thinking about it and I look forward to walking around the farm. Doesn’t it look inviting?
My mom is quite creative and enjoys making things so I think we’ll have fun learning how to make the lavender wands. I already want to make dozens of them in all different colors.

Doesn’t owning a lavender farm sound romantic? I’m sure it is lots of hard work but what a great “office” to spend your day in and who hasn’t dreamed of leaving their hectic life behind for a simpler existence? Deb didn’t just dream about it but made the big move from New York to rural Catlett, Virginia a few years ago.
Deb and her mother, Edith welcome you to visit the farm and share their passion for lavender…and even if you can’t visit in person you can see the farm and buy lavender products on their website.
I hope my mom will enjoy the day and I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures to share so be looking for those late in June.
Happy Mother’s Day Moms…enjoy our day!

A lavender farm does sound romantic, xv.
What a wonderful surprise learning that you have a planned trip for me. I have always loved lavender, so this will be very exciting visiting Deb and her mother’s farm.
Love,
Mom
I love the smell of lavender! My uncle had 2 huge lavender bushes (which I picked out for him years ago) and the lavender is sooooo long, we need a whole field of lavender from that bush!
Happy mom’s day to you Kate!

Maria
So glad you are looking forward to visiting Seven Oaks, Mom! I can’t wait.
Hugs Maria! Thanks for the Happy Mother’s Day wish.
Thanks too to Vicki for stopping by and leaving a comment. You all have added to the fun of my own Mother’s Day.
Great idea Kate ! I’m sure Momma Lou will love it…I’ve had the privilege of being at that gorgeous lavender farm and boy is it spectacular ! The smell alone is intoxicating. Happy Mother’s Day to you !
Thanks April. It looks like Deb is doing an incredible job with the lavender farm and can’t wait to see…and smell it.
Thanks for the Mother’s Day wish.
Hey you can’t go without me! I have yet to visit Deb’s incredible farm and this sounds like a great reason to make the trip!
I’d love it if you would join us and I’m sure Deb would be thrilled to see you!
In fact if anyone else wants to join us on 13-June in the Virginia countryside about an hour west of DC that would be great. Just let me know.
Oh, I love lavendar and how I lament it’s absence from my garden in coastal North Carolina. It is just too damp and muggy for it here. However, next to the ocean, it does well! Thanks for your post!
Pam I love lavender too and I also love the North Carolina coastal area so we have those things in common.
Your blog is delightful. Thanks for the comment.
I have some wonderful products from Seven Oaks. A beautiful sachet keeps my linens smelling divine. I also have edible lavendar in a cool tin. It is dried and you can bake it into sweets or breads and it is so refreshing in ice tea – during a lavendar party in NYC thrown by Deborah she made this and it was delicious!
One day I hope to see the farm in full bloom.
Oh Kim I love the idea of lavender in ice tea. I’ve never had that before but will have to buy some edible lavender when I’m at the farm.
