Well if you are perusing the streets of NYC- the answer might be just be “I see a blue chair looking at me!”–thanks to the color-loving, design savvy crew at House Beautiful magazine.
In celebration of America’s love affair with the color Blue, the mag and some of our favorite furniture companies have teamed up to create a kind of “Where’s Waldo-meets-scavenger hunt-meets….do I dare say it: Blues Clues.”
The blue chairs were placed throughout Manhattan (one even made it across the bridge to Brooklyn) photographed and then taken away into safe hiding…but come March 1, 2010 they will magically appear back in their same spots and guess what? The ultimate game of Finders Keepers will ensue.
You heard it right. Figure out where these sky/sea hued perches are perched, bring your pick-up truck (or perhaps hail a cab) and add a bit of blue to your own abode. Happy Hunting—here are your clues:
the “Avalon Child’s Chair” from Target
Palecek’s “Manhattan Hassock” in Cobalt Blue
The Container Store’s “Polo Desk Chair”
“Village Azzuro” Blue Side Chair from Crate & Barrel
Room & Board’s American-made “Cole” chair
The La-Z-Boy “Carlyle Reclining Chair” in Blue
Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams’ “Wyatt” chair in Bevan-Sky
“Eames® Molded Plastic Armchair” from Design Within Reach
Lee Industries’ 1703-01 Chair in Majestic Blue Fabric with Natural Nailhead trim
Arhaus Furniture’s “Giles” in Ocean Blue
Oh, by the way this baby is mine. And yes I do in fact know right where it is and f.y.i even if you threatened to hold your breath till you turn ‘blue’…I’m not telling!!!

I’ve always wanted an Eames chair like that and especially like it in blue but I’d be happy with any of these. If you see a midnight BLUE SUV with a BLUE CHAIR in tow…that will be me…or at least I’d like it to be.

I love this “Palecek’s Manhattan Hassock” not to mention my in favorite color. Hope Chicago is next…
Love the blue clues idea! How Fun! Village Azurro chair looks like Time Square, a perfect place for a sit down as there is so much to see. Love the Central Park( if that is where it is) Avalon’s Child’s chair. You need a chair to sit after walking all day in New York and what a better place than in a blue chair in a garden! It’s a great fun idea. Love it!
The Eames chair I could manage carrying home!! What a great concept – like Picasso – every one should have their ‘Blue’ period. Great article, love the ‘Blues Clues’ reference hee hee.
this is going to be so much fun! Sometimes I wish I lived in NYC… Oh well, good luck to those who participate!

A 21st century game of “musical” chairs in the “blues” genre! Fabulous idea!!
I love the blue and white combination and how crisp and refreshing it looks. These blue chairs against the white snow has that same feeling, and I’m sure after a long day in the city they would be a relaxing place to stop and take it all in. I love the Arhaus “Giles” chair too, and ocean blue, hello one of my favorites. Seriously, Julie, if you get that chair, I am going to be so jealous. What a great idea House Beautiful, and what a great post Julie!

Here’s one more, from our company, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. It’s the Wyatt Chair in Bevan-Sky blue leather…pretty shade of blue and a really comfortable sit too. Here’s link to its photo from House Beautiful…location is pretty obvious–good luck! http://www.flickr.com/photos/housebeautiful/4385122137/in/set-72157623338006679/
Quite clever. I love the touch of red with the Container blue chair with the neutral gray background……House Beautiful’s signature BLUE……GREAT ARTICLE…AND GREAT POST…JULIE
I love the Avalon Child chair from Target. It would fit perfectly in my 4 year old princess’s bedroom. And the one from Arhaus Furniture is gorgeous – very Van Gogh like! I want to sit in this Ocean Blue chair and flip through the pages of the Chester Dale Art Collection book that I just got from the National Art Gallery in Washington DC, while sipping Blue Hawaiian. Thank you, House Beautiful – what a brilliant idea!
Thanks Mindy. I’ll know right where I’ll be parked waiting on March 1st
Love the chair!

I like how quirky the chairs look outside with the snow in the background. Oddly appealing, though prob chilly to sit in…
