Ikea’s PS line makes it’s debut in the US. First introduced at the Milan Furniture Fair, the eco conscience collection which includes over 40 pieces by 20 different designers, has been anxiously awaited for by design junkies everywhere. With the task of creating affordable, sustainable wares- the designers draw inspiration from nature, their childhood, and even how to fit their finished products into a flat Ikea box (to save on the need for shipping). The collection is cool ( love the mushroom-like KarlJohan stool) and the online movie which places the designers flying around in giant seeds over a colorfully drawn wonderland- click on the pods to hear the designer’s own personal inspiration- is simply brilliant!
The US Open is set to begin on August 31st and NYC braces to host the world’s greatest ( and most colorfully dressed) players. The Kings and Queen of the game literally held court on the streets of Manhattan this week as they modeled the Nike fashions they are set to wear. Federer’s and Nadal’s colors draw inspiration from the great city itself ( subway signs and taxi cabs), while Serena helped design her own look ( finding inspiration from this yea’s runways in true fashionista form). NY Mag’s The Cut has a great rundown of the event- check out what MC John McEnroe has to say about the men’s fashion and Serena’s rundown on comfort (love) vs. style (match point).
Which came first the inspiration or the color? If colored pencils are your medium, Social Designer’s set of 500 pointed beauties is right up your colorful alley. The company begs the question- ‘ What would one color be without the other 499? Hum, I’m not sure of the answer, but I do love their concept of attempting to find out through monthly color family exploration. Once ordered, the set of pencils are sent 25 at a time over 20 months ( subscriptions cost $33 a month- so you do the math). The company’s additional wall and table top display cases makes the collection a work of art itself.

WoW! Thanks so much for posting this! I just got back from the Western & Southern Tennis Tournament in Cincinnati and will be at the US Open as well. Can’t wait to see these three in action in their colorful outfits!

Love all the tennis colors. Even if I never use them I want those 500 pencils. Might be a bit indulgent but love all those colors and what fun to display.
Great post. I love the “whites” of Wimbeldon, but seeing how the players express themselves through color can be as fun as watching the matches.
The colored pencils are beautiful, they are a work of art alone. I clicked on the link and fell in love with the color wave.
I adore those pencils. They are every colour designers dream I think!

Wow,great tennis attire! I do use colored pencils for sketching before I begin a painting. I also love the way the pencils look in a cylinder vase, favorite coffee mug, piece of pottery etc.

I see I’m not the only one that would love to own those colored pencils.
