Remember those rainy Summer days when you would discover an oil slick rainbow?
It would stop me in my wet sneaker tracks. I would duck down and move side to side trying to see the full spectrum. It was momentarily mesmerizing. I imagined scooping it up and taking it home.
My fascination with iridescence hasn’t wavered since a girl. It has only grown into a bit of an obsession.
I adore butterfly wings, peacock feathers, pearls, antique glass and really just about anything with that glowing rainbow spectrum.

It’s official- wearing white shoes is a faux pas, put them away till next spring. However, for God’s sake, please keep wearing the colorful summer clothes!
Summer is not over yet. You can count on that Indian summer too. Think twice before you put those polished toes in a pair of boots; it is still hot and those toes will be confined for the next 7 months! Keep those strappy sandals, colorful frocks and bright slacks on.
Maybe put a last bloom of summer in your hair? No need to rush the seasons. Soon enough tights and sweaters will be a necessity, till then make a few more summer color splashes!

Looking lovely while shopping on 5th Avenue.

I’m on a peach kick. I’ve been trying lots of new recipes and eating loads of them. So delicious it tastes like summer.
Lately there has been a crispness in the evening that reminds us summer is nearing an end, but the peaches are still plentiful.
Yesterday, after a very juicy bite, I was looking at the fruit’s gorgeous hue. The blush is somewhat yellow, a touch of gold, lots of pink and maybe some orange?? Really a hard color combination to describe!!
It reminded me of one of my favorite semi-precious stones, Imperial Topaz. (more…)

Maybe your garden is still bursting with your favorite flowers?
As a city dweller I have a few succulents growing in a window box and try to have fresh cut flowers in a vase as often as possible.
I live a hop, skip and jump from the flower district in Manhattan where beautiful and rare flowers are accessible year round. It is my go to source for colorful bouquets.
Today I stopped at my local farmer’s market where I was happy to see the flowers were still flourishing. Till that fall chill sets in, I will opt to support the local varieties.
Here are some pictures from the Green Market where flowers grow as tall and fresh as the corn. (more…)

Pure and pretty peridot is a perpetual pleaser. It’s palette is paler than precious emerald and tourmaline, however; by no means paltry.
For many it is preferable, perhaps because picking peridot for a bit of panache will not empty your purse. (more…)

My favorite place to shop in NYC is the farmers market at Union Square.
Fresh, colorful food is full of vitamins. Eating delicious, pesticide free food is what life is all about. A juicy peach picked that morning is what a peach should taste like. (more…)

Would Dorothy’s shoes have been as powerful if they were lemon yellow? I think not.
Snow White’s lips against her “skin as white as snow” wouldn’t have excited the imagination as much if they were petal pink. (more…)

Cherished as symbols of purity and perfection, pearls are the ultimate symbol of good taste.
I adore pearls. As a jewelry designer I love all gems, their color and beauty is an inspiration. Brightly colored stones really get me, however; I am equally drawn to the subtle color of pearls. Their lustrous hues come in gold, aubergine and pistachio to platinum, white, and peacock.
For many years I have had a love affair with pearls. Sadly I overlooked them for a long time. I saw my fill of the small white choker length strand, paired with matching studs as the finishing touch to the sweater set. Unless you are going for “straight laced,” I suggest avoiding this look. For so long pearls just came across to me as “strict.” (more…)

Are you green with envy?
I am because emerald is not my birthstone. Don’t get me wrong, I love garnet, my birthstone; but emerald is the epitome.
Green is my favorite color. This is one of the reasons emeralds are high up in my “gemstone love” top ten.
Green is not the easiest color. (more…)

The French are glad to die for love.
They delight in fighting duels
But I prefer a man that lives
and gives expensive jewels.
A kiss on the hand
May be quite continental
But diamonds are a girl’s best friend.
The ultimate, it is rare and revered. As close to perfection as a gem can be.
After gazing into a diamond and experiencing it’s sparkling spectrum of light within, it is easy to see why we have been entranced by this rock since man first laid eyes on it. (more…)
