Have you ever noticed that wearing a particular outfit makes you feel extra confident? Or that when you wear a blouse of a certain color you receive more complements because you look especially attractive in it?

Would you like to look in the mirror every day and see a reflection that says “I look and feel great”? More Alive With Color by Leatrice Eiseman reveals how to discover your personal colors and build your wardrobe around them so that you look and feel sensational, whether kicking back at home or kicking up your heels out on the town.

The Colortime system organizes colors by how they appear during different times of the day: at sunrise, at sunset, or in the sunlight at midday. Rather than dictate a particular set of hues as some other books do, Leatrice offers you a system to identify your best colors, allowing you to build a versatile wardrobe that reflects your taste and personal style.

Leatrice incorporates crossover colors that work across all palettes and shares tips on how you can wear a favorite color even if it doesn’t fall within your personal palette. The book includes removable pages for each color palette and the crossover color so that you can see how the colors work together and which makes it easy to choose new colors to add to your current wardrobe.

Best of all, Leatrice shares a wealth of information on putting color together and includes her guide for goof-proof combinations.

Once you have an understanding of your personal colors, Leatrice gives you the secrets to putting together a perfect look for any occasion. She also offers sound solutions for building a wardrobe and packing for a trip. One chapter offers practical advice especially for men, that any man will be able to use, regardless of his level of fashion sophistication.

Leatrice, who has assisted corporations worldwide to choose colors to communicate a particular brand or product message, distills her extensive knowledge into two information packed chapters that explain what the colors you wear say about you and how colors influence others. This information alone could change the way you think about what you wear.

This book is beautifully illustrated and Leatrice’s timeless wisdom takes the guess work out of selecting clothes, accessories, hair color, and cosmetics. Choosing colors that are flattering and communicate your personal style has never been easier or more enjoyable.

The return of blue eyeshadow

10th Apr. '06 • Category: Fashion & Beauty

Authored by Kate Smith

beauty, color, colour, eye shadowAs goes fashion, so goes makeup - and a return to the look of the 80’s is reflected in both. This signals a return to brighter eyeshadows and liners and neutral lip colors. Blush is also making a return and we will see stronger cheek color than in recent years.

The eye palette includes greens, blues, teals, purples, and other brights for both shadow and liner. The overall look is matte to semi-matte and clean.   SensationalColor.com

Prom dress expresses personal style

1st Apr. '06 • Category: Fashion & Beauty • Tags:

Authored by Kate Smith

In my prom days, there were really only two looks. The traditional soft-colored, long, frilly gown or the sleek, deep hued, halter number that I longed for and my mother refused to let me buy.

Sure it came with a short matching jacket that I wore when I showed her, but she correctly surmised that it would find its way to the back of some chair within minutes of arriving at the ballroom and my back would be bared for all to see the entire night.

While teens may still not agree with their mothers about the styles and color of their gowns, at least they are no longer limited to just a few looks.

Prom fashions are less about following trends and more about expressing personal style which tells me that while young women today may enjoy keeping their finger on the pulse of fashion, they have the confidence to style their own look.

Prom fashion options for spring include dresses that are short, long, and in-between. As for color, there are as many choices as there are colors.

Purple and turquoise are strong. Black, which wasn’t even an option for the most forward fashionista in my day, is back again this year. Other options being chosen for a sophisticated look are coffee brown, bronze, and gold. On the other end of the color spectrum, papaya, lime, apple green, lemon, orange, and fuchsia speak to the fun-loving set.

With so many options, the only challenge for this year’s prom-goer may be getting mom’s approval. I just hope they can do a better job than I did!   SensationalColor.com

Purple on the red carpet

31st Jan. '06 • Category: Fashion & Beauty • Tags: , ,

Authored by Kate Smith

The color purple currently reigns on the red carpet.

Teri Hatcher, Alfre Woodward, Ziyi Zhang, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria, and Michelle Williams all chose variations of this color for their gorgeous gowns.

The lovely ladies weren’t the only trendsetters opting for variations of violet and lavender - several men, including Tony Parker, Daniel Dae Kim, and Morgan Freeman, looked spectacular in this royal hue, too.

Will purple be the hot color at the Oscars? Stay tuned.   SensationalColor.com

Color trends 2006: Jeans are more than just blue

22nd Jan. '06 • Category: Fashion & Beauty • Tags: , , , ,

Authored by Kate Smith

Jeans never go out of style, and no wardrobe is complete without at least one great fitting pair in traditional blue.

If you’re shopping for a new pair, the current color trend is rich, dark blue - especially for the cooler weather. The silhouette is a bit slimmer with a bit higher waist than has been shown in past seasons.

The funky, faded look is being replaced with embroidery and stitching, while the vintage look remains strong.

To jazz up your look, add a new pair of jeans in one or more of the many colors being shown this year. Gray was a favorite among designers, but black, tan, and green are also available in most styles.

Whether teamed with a leather belt, dressy blouse, or favorite sweater, jeans in an unexpected color will spice up any look.   SensationalColor.com

Color trends 2006: Internationally inspired palette for home

9th Jan. '06 • Category: Home & Garden • Tags: , , ,

Authored by Kate Smith

It delights me that more individuals are gaining color confidence and experimenting with bold colors in their homes.

Although initially spurred on by the wide use of brighter colors shown on home decorating shows, design magazines, and fueled by our love of travel to faraway destinations, I hesitate to call this a trend.

I believe that once someone lives with distinctive colors, they will never again want to live with plain vanilla surroundings.

For 2006, bright hues are being upstaged by an internationally inspired rich color palette. The inspiration was not taken from a particular culture, but rather gleaned from many regions and cultures. You can see this influence across colors showcased by the major paint companies:

Benjamin Moore suggests the deep lilac of Queens Wreath, a rich purple called Shadow, the rosy brown Stone Harbor, Currant Red, Vermont Slate, and Stone Brown.

Sherwin-Williams recommends Coral, the deep orange of Bosc Pear, a brown named Smokey Topaz, the dark cool Kendal Green, and the charred red of River Rouge.

Pratt & Lambert’s Boucle is between teal-blue and aqua and looks sensational with dark brown.

ICI Paints, maker of the Glidden brand, has selected the green/gold of Golden Kiwi as its color of the year. Duron chose Ablaze, a cross-cultural red, and Peaceful Pines, while a strong yellowy-green is a key color for Dutch Boy.

With inspiration from around the globe, these rich, saturated hues can give your home a sense of escapism…and isn’t that exactly what we seek when we take refuge from the hectic pace of life in the comfort of our own space?   SensationalColor.com

Pope Benedict XVI has many seeing red

25th Dec. '05 • Category: Fashion & Beauty • Tags: , ,

Authored by Kate Smith

Fashion, Color, Colour, Style, Pope Benedict, RedDuring a recent appearance before an audience in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Benedict XVI arrived donning a crimson cap trimmed with white fur.

The cap, known as a camauro, popular during the medieval and Renaissance periods, has not been worn during modern times except for a brief appearance during the 1960’s as part of the attire worn by John XXIII.

Perhaps the Pope’s revival of the camauro is a fashion statement, or maybe it’s just a way to stay warm when temperatures dip towards freezing.

This isn’t the first time Pope Benedict XVI has had us seeing red. His red Prada footwear that debuted last summer made a fashion statement and turned a few heads, as did his ermine-trimmed red cape.

Some may be critical, but with a professional wardrobe that leaves little room for interpretation, great accessories and a pop of color are a way for the Pope to show the world a bit of his personal style.   SensationalColor.com

Our reaction to color is almost instantaneous and has a profound impact on the choices we make everyday.

Below is a quick look at general responses to colors based on research, historical significance of color, and word association studies. Different cultures react to colors differently, and this brief overview focuses on the responses of people in the Western Hemisphere.

Color Meaning, Symbolism, Psychology; Colour Meaning, Symbolism, Psychology; RedRed has more personal associations than any other color.
