Blog.mode: addressing fashion, the awesome interactive exhibit from The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, ends today with a final post featuring a design entitled “Ethereal Nature” by American design duo Kate and Laura Mulleavy for their label Rodarte.
If you aren’t familiar with the exhibit, which I first posted about a few month back, take a look now ( as I’m not sure how much longer it will stay online). The show and it’s companion blog have been a wonderful guide to the trends in fashion over the last few centuries and even more exciting, an insider’s peek at the inspirations behind some of the most exciting couture in the Museum’s private collection.

I just returned home from my first visit to Charleston, South Carolina- or as I like to now call it ” the best quaffed city in the United States”.
All I can say is- wow! The belles and beaus of this southern gem sure know how to make an exterior style statement! (after all how could I not fall in love with a city that has a street nicknamed “rainbow row”!)
Being a huge fan of all things garden, I took off on a dreary, gray New York morning with great expectations of landing in a warmer, more colorful land.
Charleston, in the midst of it’s spring blooming glory, did not disappoint. (more…)

I’m feeling a real need to renew and rejuvenate my life this spring. So it’s no wonder the color I’m craving the most right now is any shade of bright, sprite, energetic green!
Greens that are not too sage-y, not to dark… but in shades that can best be described as existing somewhere between preppy and edgy and are as refreshing as a tall, cool glass of minted sweet- tea.

I love talking about color trends each season for fashion and beauty, and the process becomes especially exciting when I spot the same trends appearing simultaneously in the world of home decor.

The melding of these two different worlds, color, style and trend wise, is an important reminder of how the trends from different industries can effect each other. (more…)

Hurray! Let the forest nymphs and artsy chicks rejoice… Spring is here!
Lucky for them they are already properly dressed for the celebration. Their style is right on track with my next favorite spring trend.

Prints, prints and more prints- from bold florals to graphic patterns to floaty, fluid garments that appear to have been dipped in or splash by a bath of wild color.
Over the past few seasons we have been seeing florals and stripes creeping back into favor at some of out favorite fashion houses, though for me last Spring was ultimately most about refreshing color combinations ( I still get a thrill at the rediscovery of pairing yellow and gray!) (more…)

I know, I know- with the first sprouts of crocuses finally popping their sleepy heads out of the cold ground this week, the last thing you probably want to think about is fall fashion. It usually takes just one or two good sunny day in March to get me feeling that first twitch of spring fever, too!
But before we pack away our sweaters neatly into cedar scented storage (because we all take proper care of our out of season clothes, right?) let’s take a world wind peek ahead to the colors and styles that by August everyone will be talking about.
First stop: Paris, France- where the mood was best described by Style.com as “austere opulence“. Apparently the more turmoil there is going on around the world, the more luxurious fashion gets. The austere- the female silhouette becoming more powerful, closer to the body, opulence- lots of fur, rich jewels and unbelievable accessories! (more…)

We’ve already talked about how super bright colors will be lighting up your home and wardrobe this Spring…
Now these electrified shades, in colors with names like psychedelic coral, hot pop blue, Studio 54 and Chrome yellow will be making a splash in your cosmetic bag as well.

Even our favorite stars are looking a little brighter this year: Katherine Heigl took to the Oscar runway in a custom blended super bright coral lips, Avril Levine’s trademark pink streak made it’s way onto the Spring catwalk while who could forget Rhianna flashing a neon orange manicure when she took home her Grammy last month.
So say bye, bye beige and sianara to nudes…. bold neon inspired hues are here! (more…)
