In the 18th century red garlands and scarves were part of cultural wedding ceremonies. Chinese brides wore a traditional Kwa; a heavily embroidered formal wedding gown in red and Greek brides wore red veils, which is still customary today.

In ancient history, wearing a red painted amulet, ruby or garnet supposedly made one invincible. Red signifies love, fertility, strength, good fortune, and happiness. We often see red front doors on the outside of homes across America, instilling the influence of Feng Shui.

The blending of aqua with soft snow whites and cocoa browns naturally evokes a fresh feeling of the outdoors within us.

I am an avid skier and love outdoor winter sports. Do you recognize me; I’m the one on the right alongside my sister and father. Winter Wonderland was inspired from old photographs of family ski trips to the Quebec Laurentian Mountains.

In the 1950’s, novelty designs became popular and were known as conversational prints. Using these types of prints throughout your decor can conjure up happy childhood memories and give a home a story. Whether you’re in the city or the country, rekindle those memories with Winter Wonderland.

As the fall harvest surrounds us, visions of beautiful leaves in various hues of copper tones reflect the transformation of nature and our seasons.

Copper, a stunning color and natural product is often found throughout our homes. Copper is used in appliances, plumbing fixtures and roofing and is the preferred choice of cookware by chefs all over the world.

During ancient times in Western Asia copper was extracted to develop instruments and ornaments, which led to the Bronze Age. The Pharaohs of Egypt revealed it had healing powers.

In America, The Statue of Liberty is encased with copper, aging gracefully at over a 100 years old, reflects America’s beauty, stability, and sustainability while being environmentally conscious.

Decoratively speaking, copper is the perfect metallic touch. Its lustrous shine blends easily with other natural earth elements such as granite, marble, wood and stone.

Our European crafted Imperial Tile design creates an aged dimensional look to any ceiling or wall, conveying the illusion of antique copper tiles.

Blush is the perfect neutral with a hint of color. This calming hue is the ideal color for various interiors, including Feng Shui settings.

Blush, created from infusing pink (a color universally known for love) with beige (a hue associated with balance), makes this shade a harmonious neutral that inspires serene decor.

Across the globe in Africa, the walls of the Majorelle Gardens (known as the Yves St. Laurent Gardens) are washed with this soft hue, as is the entire city of Marrakech in Morocco. They intentionally surrounded the city in blush to reflect the natural sands of the desert and landscaping.

Of course, the concept of using blush in cosmetics is to subtly enhance one’s natural beauty and to provide a healthy glow.

Whether used to enrich the skin tone, architecture, or interiors, this new neutral demands attention…so don’t be shy, blush a little and bring natural beauty to your home.

The wall design Frut a di Mare, above right, was designed from a 19th century watercolor and pencil sketch and is featured in the Damask Collection. The photo of the Bougainvilia and blush wall is from my recent trip to the Majorelle Gardens in Marrakech, Morocco.

Artisans of ancient civilizations used gold lavishly in decorating tombs and temples. Incas referred to gold as “the tears of the sun.”

The precious metal, often used in the form of jewelry, was sought to glorify and adorn royalty to reflect their monarchical powers and status as part of the culturally elite.

Designer clothing, shoes, and handbags in various golden hues are heralding attention on spring fashion runways. Jewelry, especially charm bracelets, are making a comeback.

Gold baubles accentuate any fashion ensemble – being at the forefront, hints of Baroque influences with texture and luster add the right amount of sophistication.

Our wall designs can reflect a personal history or be an autobiography.

Similar to ancient eras, where gold was used as a dedication to one’s glorification, today we quietly speak through our interiors to reflect our personal style.

Gold as a a color for interiors is no longer considered ostentatious; it simply allows elegance to reign. Featured above are Bon Bon and Eclipse wall designs.

Note: The charm bracelet in the above photo was given to me by my mother. Many charms reflect her world travels with my father and some are from my own travels.

Eiffel Tower – Paris Teapot – England Clog Shoe – Holland Gemini Stone Figurine – My mother’s birth sign Rooster – Spain Cross – Christmas gift Tambourine with Spanish Bull – Spain Ram – Africa Round Locket, one side has a picture of my father and the other has hair braided from my brothers & sister – Greek Urn – Greece St. Josephine from my mother to protect me – Golden Nugget from Africa

Royalty then, like Hollywood today, influenced trends.

Countries across Europe started to put their own signature imprint into the center motifs of each damask design. English damasks included images of roses, fruits, and horses. France added swans, bees, and laurel leaf motifs while Italy used dogs, musical instruments, and food.

The damask has expanded the globe over centuries and is a consistent decorative element. Damask is the perfect design to bridge the gap between modern and traditional decor.

The photo above features the damask Marrakech from Jaima Brown Home and is colored in chocolate, the new classic color for interiors. It blends beautifully with Seaglass, which is on the ottoman in the Field Greens fabric. Nature never looked so good! This color combination evokes luxury and is here to stay!
