An Inspiration That Is Clearly Heavy

I love the word juxtaposition, don’t you?  Any word with both a letter J and a letter X in it –is okay in my book. But beyond just how cool the word sounds and looks- mostly, I love what it means.

jux·ta·po·si·tion

(noun)–an act or instance of placing close together or side by side, esp. for comparison or contrast.

I’m more of a ‘for contrast’ type of girl, myself.  I love the tension created when two totally different textures and depth of color are placed side by side. Opposites attract (me) indeed.

I was thinking this morning how much I adore this old Eastman Kodak image for that very reason.

The dramatic pose, her transparent golden raincoat mixed with the starting-to-fade saturated hues of old color film- -for me is incredibly inspiring.

I have always loved the juxtaposition (there’s that word again) of heavy (color) and clear (texture), it’s no wonder an unexpected touch of lucite makes my heart flutter or that I am completely obsessed with mossy garden glass terrariums…its sad, but I could honestly stare at them all day.

Throw in a palette inspired by this vintage snapshot-I think I will call it “Faded Technicolor”, and I’m ready to kick off my clear heels, put my feet up on a wood based illusion coffee table and throw back a glass or two of vino-in a heavily rimmed clear goblet, no doubt!

What’s inspiring you today???

I enjoyed rolling this word around my mind and used it in part in a recent post which I linked to you. I so enjoy your point of view. Thanks for making me think

Love the couch with the lucite arms. Perfect example of juxtaposition in style mixing! Great.

Isn't it great how a word can evoke so many thoughts and visuals just by saying them . . . cotton - sturdy, cashmere - soft, metallic - hard . . . sorry, got all caught up in my own words. Anyway, you're right about color and texture.

The unusual combination of fuchsia and yellow/gold, with rich textures, is inspiring me just now. I've designed a bracelet in those colors. Talking about contrast...it's so bright it almost hurts the eyes! But I surprised myself with how spring-like and happy it looks!
