With all of the media exposure for Bono and “Project Red,” you may have forgotten that red is also the signature color of the American Heart Association. This week, we get a reminder with “Go Red for Women” Day.
Everyone (men too!) can support the fight against heart disease in women by wearing red on February 2, 2007. Wear your favorite red clothes or accessory - a red blouse, a red dress pin, a fabulous red handbag - then put on red lipstick, or sport a red tie and red socks.
Go red in your own fashion to show your support for women and the fight against heart disease.
The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign began in February 2004 to raise awareness that heart disease is women’s No. 1 killer.

For those that just can’t get enough of that “fresh paint smell”…
I have always liked the smell of fresh paint. It signals that something is being transformed, refreshed, or made new again.
There is something genuinely satisfying to me in being able to put on a coat of paint and breathe new life into a home, a room, or an object. Even when its not my project or home, one whiff of the smell of fresh paint brings back those good feelings.
Since most paint manufacturers and homeowners alike have found creative ways to eliminate the odor associated with paint, I thought that I was one of just a few quirky folks that had positive associations with the smell.
You can imagine my surprise to find that Demeter actually makes a “pick me up cologne” that smells like - you guessed it - paint! It seems I am not alone in my feelings.

During his Tuesday night State of the Union address, President George W. Bush wore a blue tie.
The President has often been seen wearing a light blue tie, but there seems to be a current trend for politicians who previously sported red for important appearances now choosing blue.
Whether consciously or unconsciously, perhaps they recognize that as concerns about the environment and world politics escalate, Americans are looking for the soothing colors of the earth - green, brown, and blue.
Boston Globe Correspondent Tina Cassidy looks at what might be behind so many politicians wearing blue ties in “Singing the blues.”
And don’t miss the photo gallery Tie: Blue is the New Hue
“When people wear soft, pastel colors, the message is one of approachability,” said Leatrice Eiseman , author of Color, Messages and Meanings and spokeswoman for the Pantone Color Institute. “It’s a completely different message from the red, power tie… .They are saying, ‘I’m really one with you.’ The pastel colors are not so much in your face.”

Most people complain about the post-holiday blues - but not the Fine Arts Center in Eureka, CA. They said that the wintertime emotional phenomenon was the inspiration for their show that opens today, called “The Blue Show.” It includes displays of ceramics and glass in the color blue.

In her essay Delving into recesses of word ‘black,‘ Signithia Fordham, professor of Gender and Women’s Studies and an associate professor of anthropology at the University of Rochester, touches on the paradox of the color black.
“Paradoxically, black, as both an identity and a crayon color, is concurrently loved and loathed, desired and despised,” she writes.
