Where Do I Begin…

Last week I had planned to have a “quiet week in the office” or at least that’s what I had put on my calendar several weeks ago.  I’ve been on the run since mid-June and needed a little time to re-group but sometimes opportunities pop up that are just too fun to let pass by.

On Monday I started my “quiet week” with a leaking dishwasher, two magazine interviews and a client calling to say they were unexpectedly going to be in town tomorrow and wanted me to meet them to discuss working together on a high profile client project.  No reason to pass that up now is there?  However, between that meeting and a dentist appointment Tuesday disappeared.

On Wednesday I needed to put together a quick slide presentation for Thursday evening and figure out how to get my garage door to go down after two of the hinges snapped in half.  While I was in NYC for the Showtime/Met Home Party the prior week Jill Slater from Apartment Therapy got in touch and asked me to be one of their presenters of their Offline Event at the new Design Within Reach store in SoHo on Thursday.  Since I’m a fan of Apartment Therapy and Jill was so wonderful I thought, “Why not?”  It’s only a quick trip to NYC and I can work on the train.

Well I’m sure you know where this is going don’t you?  The trip that usually takes just under three hours took over four and I spent most of the time totally frustrated trying to format pictures that kept mysteriously shrinking in file size when I emailed them to Jill for the presentation.  It wasn’t until 15 minutes before I got off the train that I figured out what went wrong and put all of the pictures on my thumb drive with the hopes of replacing the poor quality images before the event got started.

The good news is that Jill was able to insert the new images, my two co-presenters were wonderful and the evening event was “the best one ever” according to AT founder Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan. I  can’t wait to tell you more about the evening.  Be looking for the full scoop in the next day or two.

The not-so-good news is that I didn’t arrive home from NYC until 2:45am.  At least my calendar was clear for Friday…that is until a producer from CBS rang me to discuss appearing in a segment on one of their most popular daytime television programs the following week.  Now wouldn’t that be fun!

I rarely have a chance to watch daytime television but my mom was able to fill me in on every detail of the show and was so excited that I might be on it that she could barely contain herself.  Who knows if it will happen.  It is Hollywood after all and anything could change between now and next week.  Even if they don’t end up doing the segment it is flattering to have been asked. (Thanks Tim!)

So it wasn’t the quiet week I had planned but I wouldn’t change a thing…okay well maybe the leaking dishwasher and broken garage door could go but the rest of the week…not a chance.

Time to get some sleep but I promise I’ll be back tomorrow with a nice dollop of color.
