Two Museums Two Dates

chrysler museum and hirshhorn museumMy 19 year old is a pretty straight-forward kind of guy so I don’t often have to decipher what he says or figure out the message behind the message.  Besides he’s not one to ever tell anything until he’s  good and ready so it just works out better to go with it.  No sense in fighting the true nature of a Libra, right?  Well most of the time anyway.  Every once in awhile there are there moments when he tells me something that I just can’t help myself.  Like yesterday.

He arrived at my mom’s house just as I was finishing my first blog post about my “artist date” at the Hirshhorn to see the Colorforms exhibit.  He asked about it and then causally mentioned that on Sunday he, too, had been at a museum.  The Chrysler Museum in Norfolk.

Now I know my son pretty well and while he has often visited museums with me over the years it has never been something I have known him to do on his own.  I asked him if  he was there for a political event or fundraiser (he’s on a Congressional campaign staff in Norfolk, Virginia Beach) but when he said, “No” and left it at that I didn’t need to hear anything more.  I already knew.

“You must really like this new gal”

“What?”

“I said you must really like this young woman.  The only guys that ever agreed to take me on a date that included a museum when I was your age were the ones that really liked me.  I know you well enough to know that with as busy a schedule as you have had lately that you won’t go by yourself.  If it wasn’t for the campaign that leaves only one other reason I can think of.  Am I right?”

“Yeah” (big grin)

There are times when a mom just knows.

If you want to see the details of my museum date you can take a peak at the post I put up on our Live In Full Color blog.  If you want to know about the details of my son’s date…good luck!
