Kiki’s post about yellow on our Color for Your Home got me thinking about Mimosa, the yellow color that Pantone named 2009 Color of the Year.

We are over two thirds of the way through the year and I was wondering if this color of the year embodies the year now that we know what 2009 is about.

Cottage-Style Yellow, Pink and Green

Yesterday I was speaking to Kathy and we had a lively conversation about the yellow, pink and mossy green decorating scheme she was considering for her cottage-style home in Northern California.

It was fun and I thought I might look for something inspiring in that scheme for today’s post but I didn’t really have to seek something out. The color inspiration was waiting for me when I sat down for breakfast.

Although it looks gray in the picture the plate was actually a soft green similar to the color shown below.

Color the White House

Yesterday Julie was ahead of most when she posted that Micheal S. Smith would be the official White House decorator in her post “The Official Obama Decorator”. But what about the exterior. Will it remain white for yet another administration?

I’m sure it will but it is still fun to envision a change.

The wonderful thing about working with smart, creative people is that they are a great source of inspiration. As usual Julie finds the best products and I’m stealing this one for my own color inspiration for today.

It come from a post Julie wrote today on creating a December fete where the mood is festive- yet nothing is quite as it seems. Her inspiration began with designer Caroline Gardner’s not so typical holiday palette and a deer motif that feels more ‘optical illusion’ then ‘yuletide cheer’.

This is an unusual combination of color especially for the holidays but shows how unexpected combinations

Pantone Color of the Year for 2009

PANTONE® announced that they have chosen 14-0848 Mimosa as their color of the year for 2009. In the announcement the color is described as “a warm, engaging yellow.”

“The color yellow exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans are naturally drawn to for reassurance,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute^®. “Mimosa also speaks to enlightenment, as it is a hue that sparks imagination and innovation.”
