I was delighted this morning by a sunrise in deep blues, golden yellow and light coral.

Industrial Designer Ignacio Pilotto is the creative mind behind this project.  I think it is so clever and fun.  I want one don’t you?

My thanks to the always creative John McCauley, Vice President and Creative Director of MacLaren Momentum in Toronto, Canada for sharing a link to Ignocia blog post on the Rubitone.

Van Gogh and the Colors of the Night

Van Gogh certainly has an emotional impact to his color choices. Who else could evoke night time using a yellow sky?

Through January 5th, you can view many of Van Gogh’s beautifully evocative paintings. ‘Colors of the Night’ is showing at the Museum of Modern Art on West 54th Street in Manhattan. (more…)   SensationalColor.com

Rachael Grad Art Reception

When I presented at the Apartment Therapy meet up earlier this month I met Rachael Grad one of their DC writers.  I immediately liked Rachael but when I learned that she had recently given up law to pursue her passion for art I knew I had found a kindred spirit.

As many of you know quite a few years ago I gave up my lucrative corporate position in order to regain a bit sanity in my hectic life as a single mom and to focus completely on color.  At the time most of my friends and family thought I had lost my mind but it has turned out to be one of the best decision I ever made.  I bet some people thought the same thing when they found out what Rachael was up to but all it takes is (more…)   SensationalColor.com

Tax Prep in Blue and Violet

11th Oct. '08 • Color Inspiration • Tags: , , , ,

Filed as Flickr photo find

I’m not sure that even this fabulous color scheme would convince me that the words “fun” and “taxes” belong in the same sentence.

I do like their unconventional color scheme however and it inspired me to look for other images in blue and violet. (more…)   SensationalColor.com

Fragment of No. 5 / No. 22, Mark Rothko

Filed as Flickr photo find

I enjoy browsing Flickr to see what catches my eye and today it was this photo of Fragment of “No. 5 / No. 22″, Mark Rothko, 1950, MOMA, NY.

Even among dozens of photos I was immediately drawn to this one but considering how much I enjoy Rothko paintings I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

I think this is a beautiful warm color palette.

Thinking with Color

Filed as Just read

A post on Twitter caught my eye.

lattemommy : I think in red. What colour do you think in?

I clicked the link that followed and had to share the comment from her daughter that brought a big smile to my face–

Observing the Princess engaged in her ambitious project of “drawing the whole world”, which apparently involves a lot of sea creatures…

Me: Don’t colour on your forehead.

Princess: I’m not, I’m just thinking with this crayon. (more…)   SensationalColor.com

Japanese Children Play With Bright Colored Balls

Color photo pick on flickr by colour expert Kate Smith

Today’s Flickr photo find is from Goodcryst.  I like the way the bright colored balls create repetition and contrast against the middle ground of black, white and sand.  Also the red cap on the young girl in the foreground and the two red balls above really draw my eye into the picture.
