After hearing the question posed to Andrew Denton on the radio Kristofor Lawson ponders the question, “If You Were A Crayon What Colour Would You Be??”

Kristofor says, “It’s such a simple question. However upon reflection it is not actually one which is so easy to answer.

It would be easy for me to answer the question with Orange as being my favourite colour.. however is that the right choice? Is the question much deeper than that? (more…)   SensationalColor.com

Study released today:

By Will Dunham Will Dunham – Tue Oct 28, 1:44 am ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – If a woman wants to drive the men wild, she might want to dress in red.

Men rated a woman shown in photographs as more sexually attractive if she was wearing red clothing or if she was shown in an image framed by a red border rather than some other colour, U.S. researchers said on Tuesday.

The study led by psychology professor Andrew Elliot of the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, seemed to confirm red as the colour of romance (more…)   SensationalColor.com

“As a youngster, it was my ambition to discover a new color.  I realized that the spectrum contained all the colors, but I dreamed nevertheless that through chemistry or lenses an undetected color lurking in the spectrum might be revealed.” – Henry Dreyfuss

How could I not want to learn more about a man that had the same dream I’ve had for years?  I simply needed to know more so I picked up the book Designing For People, which is described as the manifesto of America’s greatest industrial designer.

For a quick peak you can find it on Google Book Search and to see what he has to say about color scroll to page 37 and it begins at the bottom of the page. (more…)   SensationalColor.com

A post on Twitter caught my eye.

lattemommy : I think in red. What colour do you think in?

I clicked the link that followed and had to share the comment from her daughter that brought a big smile to my face–

Observing the Princess engaged in her ambitious project of “drawing the whole world”, which apparently involves a lot of sea creatures…

Me: Don’t colour on your forehead.

Princess: I’m not, I’m just thinking with this crayon. (more…)   SensationalColor.com

Climate Change May Effect Fall Colors

Usually when I think about the connection between color and revenue my mind is on a commercial brand or product and in that case the ability to maintain a consistent color is dependent on issues around technology, printing and color standards.

Today I was reading about how biologists at the University of Vermont’s Proctor Maple Research Center are thinking about color and revenue from a different perspective.  They are studying how temperature affects the development of autumn colors and whether the warming climate could mute them, prolong the foliage viewing season or delay it.

The three-week period of peak foliage color - usually from the end of September to mid-October - is among the busiest of the year for Vermont tourism, bringing in an estimated $364 million, according to state officials. It’s also an important time for tourism in the other New England states.

Hitting Skins to Find Sound’s Color

“Any sound has an expression and a sense of color, and you can feel that color if you listen carefully”

Eitetsu Hayashi finds sound's color, color and soundThis is a quote from an aricle in The Japan Times today by Rei Sassaguchi about a young drummer named Eitetsu Hayashi who helped start the wadaiko (Japanese drums used in festivals) boom that has lead to the formation of more than 3,000 taiko groups in Japan.

I love the music color connection and after reading this am going to try to see him or at least get one of his recordings and then do my best to channel Mr. Hayahsi’s talent for “hearing color”.

You can read the entire article here but here is an excerpt of Mr. Hayashi commenting on hearing color during a performance with the Boston Symphony–

Hayashi says. “While trying to work on the number, I felt that my entire body became my ears. In the sounds of the drum I was beating, I could hear various expressions (more…)   SensationalColor.com
