It’s 1:30am here in Virginia but I have a good reason for still being awake. I just got off the phone with George Noory the host of Coast to Coast AM.
He had seen the news story “Study says the woman in red drives the men crazy,” and wanted to know, “Is it true?”
Since the results came as no surprise to me I confidently said “Yes!” and then shared some of the science behind the psychological effects of the color red.
Basically here’s what happens–
When we see red it sparks (more…)

I have something to buzz about today. My “Color For Your Home” blog was added to the blog roll of the blog written by the designers of Beehive Studio for Valspar Paint.
Color Buzz is written by four very talented decorative and mural painters and it seems we are kindred spirits. We all love color and enjoy sharing what we know with our readers so that the process of making color decisions is less intimidating and more fun. If you haven’t yet discovered Color Buzz check it out.
Thanks so very much Ann, Michele, Megan and Veronique for including “Color For Your Home”. I truly appreciate it.

As many of you might recall I have had the good fortune to present at the House Beautiful Color Institute this year, which recently made its way to San Francisco.
The opening event included magazine editor Stephen Drucker interviewing guest designers Suzanne Tucker and Paul Vincent Wiseman a la “Inside the Actor’s Studio”. I always enjoy this part of the morning session as I love to hear how other creative people think about color.
On Saturday the San Francisco Chronicle had a nice wrap-up of the Color Institute event.
An excerpt from the article:
Tucker and Wiseman surprised Drucker by declaring their favorite color to be yellow - “it’s beautiful with contemporary, with metallics, with antiques, and it’s very flattering,” said Tucker, who takes into consideration her clients’ coloring when choosing paints. br>

Drucker, who has taken the Color Institute to other cities, declared that: “No one in (more…)

I was recently interviewed by Joanne Richard for Sun Media (Canada’s largest newspaper publisher) and this article appears today in newspapers across Canada. Thanks for including me Joanne!
Below are excerpts that include what I said about purple.
According to the experts, expect grape things this fall. Red-based purples verging on raspberry are popular, says colour diva Kate Smith, but hues of violet, eggplant, aubergine and plum also look extremely sophisticated in fashion and (more…)

Joanne Richard took a look at lipstick in an article that appeared in six of the Sun newspapers in Canada today and she included my “Personality Shades”.
I also included another sidebar that I thought you would enjoy. It looks at personality based on how a woman wears down the point as she applies the color.
From the article:
While trends in lip colour and shape change, lipstick remains the most purchased and used cosmetic product out there.
PERSONALITY SHADES
Bright Red: Open, dynamic, sexy and opinionated — they know what they want.
Bright Pink: Fun loving and ability to make others feel important.
Light Pink: Innocent, feminine and charming with a sweet demeanor.
Brownish: Confident, usually appears cool and collected.
Nude: Highly admired and possesses a quiet power and confidence.
Wine: Authoritative with a penchant for luxury or expensive things.
Orange: Youthful, innovative and the life of the party - a trendsetter.
