Trend Tuesday: High-Style Metallics

It was easy to see that metallics played a big role in Oscar wears this past Sunday. Many of the stars wore dresses that had glitz, bling, shimmer, shine, and sparkle. These gorgeous ensembles were stylishly putting the glam back in glamorous. We often talk about taking ideas for our home decor and color palettes from the fashion industry, and vice versa. Here are some of the top metallic looks that can inspire high-style interiors.

I love when trends from fashion and interiors mingle. And I especially love when trends that Kate and I have been following start showing up all around us. As a loyal reader you might already know that we offer our Sensational Color for Your Home 2010/2011 Home Color & Design Trend Report online. If you haven’t taken the time to watch the 28 minute video presentation or download the 10 page pdf with full color palettes, here’s the link to sign up. But for a quick sneak peak at just one of the many metallic mentions, here’s a snip of a page right out of our book.

As trendspotters, we’ve been keeping our eyes wide open to watching wallpaper make a big come back. Wallpaper is like clothing for our interiors. They wrap our walls with beautiful prints, patterns, and finishes. The stars showed us on the Red Carpet that metallic looks have risen to the top of high-style in fashion. And as trends in the fashion industry and interiors continue to run on a more parallel plane we’re happy to see this hot look taking shape in the home. Here are some of our favorite metallic looks for your walls.

So what will your walls be wearing?  Will they be dressed in a fancy metallic?

I loved Sandra Bullock’s dress and her! She is a great representative of intelligent Hollywood for once and is beautiful. I also love the Lee Jofa silver paper…very Hollywood. A perfect match to Sandra’s dress but of course, I favor gorgeous wallpapers anyway and believe it makes a house into a home! Adds that personal touch. Thanks for the great metallic update! Jaima

Aha! I’ve been vacillating over what color to paint a buffet. I was thinking of a Gustavian grey with plum or oxblood ceramic pulls and knobs. But now you’ve got me thinking SILVER!

I did a metallic treatment on this little curvy table:

Thanks for drawing attention to this: I loved the metallic shimmery old-style glamor of the Oscars! And now you have made me think more about it. When I learned that I am a “6 Metal” – according to feng shui, we are all somewhere on the bagua depending on our birth year – I felt decidedly more comfortable with the fact that I love glimmering, sparkly things and I love gold and silver and looked really good in a silver lame top, bar-tending my way around the States during my first visit in the early eighties! In other respects, I am more of your earth-mother country girl, so this was a nice addition to the repertoire.

I was out shopping this evening and I remembered reading this post about metallics so I HAD to buy a really big metallic purse – I love it!

Actually, it’s quite likely one of my dining room walls will be wearing metallic soon!! I’m seriously considering a purple & silver wallpaper from Graham & Brown for the focal wall.

I’ve been into the whole Hollywood glam look with sparkle and shine for a while now. I just hope it doesn’t get hot and then suddenly dropped, or most of my house will be out of style!! ;-) Although it doesn’t matter to me what’s trendy or not — I go with what I love :-)

  6. Ladies, I love that you are all thinking metallic and how wonderful that you each of touches of them in your home.

Kelly, if you go with that wallpaper, you’ve got to post it. Graham & Brown has some fabulous metallics, well just great paper all around and what a beautiful combination of silver and purple.
Donna, next time we see each other you’ll have to bring your new purse.
Sylvie, That buffet is one of my favorite pieces I’ve spotted lately. I’m sure whatever you decide it will be beautiful.

Thanks for your comments everyone! Have a colorful day!
