What a whirlwind last couple weeks Kate and I have had. We filmed a DVD in B’ham, AL, spoke at High Point Market and walked the show, went to the House Beautiful Market party (Congratulations Newell on the Editor-In-Chief position!), met with my friends Joni Vanderslice and Anna Ruby from J Banks Design Group, taught a private color class to some fabulous designers from Distinct Design Group, chatted color and business with Donna Frasca a Color Specialist from Charlotte (check out her blog), and have now arrived in DC where we get one day to regroup before heading to Brooklyn for the Color Marketing Group Spring International Conference to be held April 23rd thru April 27th. If you’ve been following my tweets or our facebook fan page you’ll know I’ve been anxiously counting down the days!
Here’s the info on CMG and what we will be forecasting in NYC…
Color Marketing Group is a not-for-profit, International Association whose members forecast Color Directions. CMG members are Color Designers involved in the use of color as it applies to the profitable marketing of goods and services. CMG provides a forum for the exchange of non-competitive information relating to all phases of color marketing: color trends and combinations; design influences; merchandising and sales; and education and industry contacts.
CMG’s primary forecasting opportunities are in the form of Conferences, during which CMG members forecast colors that have not yet been applied to a particular product and are under consideration for future product introductions for all industries (fashion, interior, transportation, visual communications, and consumer goods industries), manufactured products, and services.
In addition to forecasting Consumer or Contract Colors while at these Conferences, Design Workshops track trends and their influences on design and color.
These influences run the gamut from social issues to politics, the environment, the economy and cultural diversity. It is an understanding of the influences that provides the most useful information, and it is the input of so many Color Designers, that gives each Forecast its tremendous validity.
While the end result of each semi-annual Conference is the development of Consumer and Contract Color Forecasts, a key part of these Conferences is the exchange and sharing of information that takes place among members. Knowing what forces and factors are influencing shifts in color directions, as seen through the eyes of their CMG colleagues, is as important to the Color Designer as the Forecast itself.
It’s time for me to put on my color and design forecasting hat. I can’t wait to bring you the latest in color trends. Stay tuned for more blogging, tweets, and facebook posts on the happenings while at the Conference.
Will I be seeing YOU in Brooklyn??
If you aren’t already a member you might be interested in the article Kate wrote about why she thinks this is a great organization…

Kiki,
Thank you so much for the mention. I can’t thank you and Kate enough for the opportunity to take your certification course. It has really made me view color through a different and better perspective now. It was fun to chat color and business with you as well.
Have a great time in Brooklyn and don’t forget to breathe!
