When I saw Aviva Stanoff’s pillows at High Point I had one of those moments. Almost like I was supposed to come across her designs that day as a reaffirmation that all was going to go great in Brooklyn for Color Marketing Group (CMG) and that both color and I were heading in the right direction.
You see, as the Co-Chair of the Conference Planning Committee for the CMG Brooklyn Conference (which was scheduled for the week after High Point) I was major stressed, then all of a sudden I see these pillows with almost the exact color we had forecast as the next hot color at the previous CMG Conference. (Read all about CMG’s Mardi Grape in my Trend Tuesday post following the press release). And Aviva’s showroom was only one of the many times I spotted this neutral purple color, seeing it in values from light to dark.
Well you can image how happy that made me, and to top it all off Aviva’s Studio is in Brooklyn, exactly where the CMG Color Forecasting Conference was being held. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to be spooked or stoked about this cool coincidence. Aviva’s story, between her Japanese roots and her NYC ties, is quite inspiring. Her collections and materials are luxurious, beautiful, and natural. And her handcrafted one-of-a-kind products are artful and made with love and soul. These were some of my favorite pillows.

Check out her downloadable pdf catalog on her website for beauty shots of these pillows in action!
She also has a great look book of her individually photographed products and collections that you can check out too.
My favorite collection is this Boudoir Collection. You can see a little peak at the framed art above. They are made by pressing real botanicals into velvet. They are hand-printed with feather down inserts, silk dupioni, silk lining, and have an invisible zipper. This collection includes both artwork and pillows with names like Negligee, Brassier, Bustier, Skimpy, Camisole, Corset, and Ruffle Garter. So fun and feminine. Here are some pics of this collection from her look book…

My only regret was that I didn’t get time to take Aviva up on her offer to visit her studio while I was in Brooklyn. According to her website it sounds like the invitation is open so hopefully I will get the chance next time!
Are you seeing CMG’s Mardi Grape starting to work it’s way into your color decisions? If so, how will you use it? As a neutral or as a color?

Eeek!!! Kiki, the blog looks great. I seriously love it, and those pillows aren’t bad either!
