Even the most beautifully designed homes have a dirty little secret: a cluttered, dull and dreary bedroom.
Since the bedroom is a private space it’s generally the last to be designed: unfortunately with the smallest budget, often making it the houses’ stepchild to the beautiful abode.
Bedrooms should be tactile and sensual. We spend one third of our lives in bed — we might as well do it in luxury.
TIPS:
- Neutral, earth based color schemes are nurturing; medium to dark browns are ideal because they soothe the soul.
- Selecting furniture in the right scale is critical. Make a to-scale drawing of your bedroom before buying furniture.
- Use high thread count linens.
Remember bedrooms should support the three R’s:Rest, Rejuvenation, and let’s not forget Romance.

Here’s what he selected (more…)

Today’s color dilemma…
What color do I paint the walls? –Azsa
Kate suggests…
I would pick out the light color from the background of your sofa and go with that or a step darker. This would allow the sofa to visually blend into the space. I would use the same color on the walls and ceiling, which would help to expand the feeling of the room. If you want to add a bit more color I would do that by adding artwork or and area rug.
From the picture it looks like this may be close to what you have although the walls look like they are a bit more yellow (more…)

Today’s color dilemma…
I don’t know what color to paint my living room. The tapestry and ikea mirrors are no longer on the wall. I’m painting the room in a few days and need some ideas. I was thinking possibly painting it a “honey or amber” shade. Also I was thinking of changing the pillows to a orangey red as in the candles. Thoughts? Suggestions?
Kate suggests…
I like the idea of warm golden color. I would look for a golden honey rather than one with too much orange. (more…)
