The other day I admired a color scheme recommended by my friend and Color for Your Home Certified Consultant, Donna Frasca.
Then the very next day someone asked me about a similar scheme. Isn’t it funny how that works sometimes?
Here’s the beautiful scheme Donna created with Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl and Monroe Bisque and here are two photos of the color scheme I was asked about. Would gray work to replace the striped wall paper?
Yes! I think it would be just lovely. The walls in this LR are a bit more orange than in the hallway above but the grout in the tile is gray, the rug has lots of gray and lavender and a gray like the one Donna suggested — Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl OC-52 — would work here too.
Donna’s keen eye for color helped her client find the perfect colors for their home and gave me a good example to point to when helping a reader gain confidence that the scheme might work for her, too. Thanks, Donna!

Love the mango and gray, that warm/cool thing really works here. Such subtlety with those colors–I would definitely get rid of that “dynamic” wallpaper- gray would work on that stairway.
Thanks Jean. The wallpaper gives the home a very 80′s feel and I think replacing it with a more sophisticated scheme will make it more inviting and up-to-date.
I remember decorating with gray and yellow back when I was started out in the 80′s. I’ve always loved those colors together – they are classic! Kate, you are so sweet for giving me such a wonderful compliment but yes it is interesting how things work out. One day you talk about a particular color and then it is requested by a client.
And yes, it’s a great idea to replace the wallpaper with a gray!

I’m not sure if the white branch with 2 birds wall art in the header image is a stencil or adhesive applique…but can anyone help me find it? I absolutely love it. Thanks! Kristin in Charlottesville, Virginia. klw2s@virginia.edu
