Exterior materials like brick benefit from the updated roofing and color options available today. The ageless look of a slate or shake roof conveys the same strength, balance and grace as classic brick. The marriage of these materials tells the world that the homeowners appreciates quality and timeless design.
To select a roof befitting your brick or partially brick home you will want to begin by really taking a close look at your brick. For example, you may describe the brick as red. And yes, red may be the predominant color but the brick also has a color cast that you will want to be aware of.
In the examples below the bricks have a color cast of tan, gray, brown, pink, or white. It is the color cast together with the main brick color that can help to determine the best color for your roof.
Begin by identifying the main color and cast color of your brick. If the cast is tan, gold or brown the roof will look better in a warm color or a blend of tiles that includes the cast color.
If the cast of the brick is gray the roof will look best if the tiles are cooler hues or includes gray in the color blend. Your first thought might be that a brown or other warm color roof would be the right choice for the bricks below. Once you take a closer look however you’ll see that the bricks are more gray than tan so leaning towards gray in your roof will enhance the appearance of the bricks.
A white cast softens the look of the brick and a mid-tone roof color rather than a darker one can make an excellent choice.
Play up the color of the brick with a multi-color blend that includes at least one tile in a color similar to the brick color.
Or you can use history as your reference and chose a classic combination.
“For all its subtle differences, brick is virtually the same, whether made across time or around the world. The real differences are found in the unique expressions of those who use them.” says the Brick Industry Association and I couldn’t agree more.
By tuning into not only the color of your brick but also the color cast you can be sure you’ll select a roof color that plays up the beauty of your brick home. But don’t stop there.
