Citron Full Spectrum Paint
Written by Kate Smith

Doesn't it make sense that paints blended from eight to fifteen different color pigments would interact more with light than the standard two- or three-pigment paints?  CJ Volk thought so, so she created full-spectrum Citron Paints.

In addition to using more pigments, CJ also omits light absorbing black, allowing her paints to reflect a broader range of light.  I think you'll enjoy how her multi-faceted colors interact and play with light.

Behind the brand

As a clothing designer, CJ Volk became obsessed with color.  When colorful fabric proved difficult to find, CJ would dye her own silk to create the desired effect.  She applied the same concept to interior paint.  Read more here, including how she created her first color, butterscotch.

Stories in color

Every color has a story, and CJ Volk is the storyteller.  She’s intrigued that her color names have struck such a chord, but it’s not hard to believe when you read the stories behind them.  I especially enjoyed how her grandma’s vintage cashmere sweater lives on through ten pigments in quantities so tiny they barely whisper.

Two-ounce paint pots are available for every Citron Paint color.  Each pot will cover about four square feet.  The colors are poured in the matte finish, their lowest sheen level.  A fan deck with one 5” by 3” sample of each paint color is also available.  You won’t want to miss her yummy colors with fun names like steamy romance, puppy fur, sand castle, or freckles.

Seeing things a different way

CJ Volk has a great eye for pulling together colors the typical designer or homeowner would never think to use together.  Here are a couple of examples of her unique combination of carrot cake or lick the bowl on the ceiling over eucalyptus on the walls.  Take advantage of her unique perspective with a color consultation if you live in or near Tucson, Arizona, or send questions and photos via email.  See lots of other photos in her scrapbook.
